Games we play:
WARHAMMER FANTASY BATTLES (WFB)
Warhammer Fantasy is set in a lavish world of sword and sorcery, where wizards, warriors and occasionally very large frogs do battle for Glory and Dominion. Warhammer gives players a choice of over 14 races and a huge range of troop types with which to build their own all-conquering army. The rules system is essentially simple, but allows for great flexibility, with rules to cover many weapons, fiendish spells and diabolical magic items. Warhammer is sometimes considered to be a game of maneuvering, and indeed movement is more important than in Warhammer 40,000, but you do get to hit things too!
Almost everyone at HGC plays Warhammer and most Gamers have several complete armies, so there is no problem getting a game!
WARHAMMER 40,000 (40K)
In the grim darkness of the far future, the universe is torn apart by war. The fragile empire of man is beset upon all sides. Alien battle fleets menace the Human frontiers, and foul gods and daemons tear apart the very fabric of reality in their quest for a few good souls to devour.
Warhammer 40,000 (usually called 40K for short) is for all the science fiction fans out there. Mighty warriors, hi-tech death-dealing devices, and larger-than-life villains, combined with fast game play and a lot of really nifty miniatures. With the release of the new 4th edition rules, Warhammer 40,000 has returned to the forefront of HGC activity. Many members have armies, and many more are building new armies for the new edition.
LORD OF THE RINGS (LotR)
Set in Tolkien’s vast and incredibly detailed Middle Earth (and based upon the spectacular films of New Line Cinema), Lord of the Rings gives players the opportunity to really monkey with the plot of the films by killing off major characters on the table top, play out famous battles from the films or simply enjoy a bit of biffo in Middle Earth. The LotR rules are completely different from anything Games Workshop has ever made before – fast-playing, simple to learn, and great fun. Several members have LotR armies, but don’t always bring them (lots of armies fighting for too little car/case/box/etc space). If you’re looking for a game of LotR, it’s often worth arranging one in advance.
OTHER GAMES WE’VE BEEN KNOWN TO PLAY:
Necromunda: Gang warfare in the massive industrial cities of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. A few campaigns have been run in the past, and it’s a safe bet another will happen sooner or later.
Blood Bowl: Frenzied football action in the Warhammer World. Quite a lot more subtle than it looks and very fun to play.
Battlefleet Gothic (BFG): Set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, BFG features fleets of masive space warships attempting to blast each other out of existence.
Mordheim: Similar to Necromunda, but played in the ruins of a devastated Warhammer Fantasy city.
