PARKINSONG STRIKES ANOTHER CHORD
Living with Parkinson’s can result in speech difficulties and in turn, less conversation, social contact and activity. People with Parkinson’s may have weak voices and their speech may become difficult to understand.
Singing can be both physically and emotionally invigorating, especially when it’s experienced with others who share the same motivation and enthusiasm. That’s why we’re bringing the power of song to more people with Parkinson’s, their family members and carers through the establishment of three new ParkinSong groups in Boronia, Cranbourne and the City of Kingston.
ParkinSong is a fun-filled singing group for people with Parkinson’s and their carers. Held in an uplifting, supportive and social environment, this singing program offers vocal exercise, an opportunity to express yourself through music and rhyme, and professional support.
ParkinSong group sessions include:
- Vocal warm-up and exercises
- Group singing
- Morning or afternoon tea
- Opportunities to connect and enjoy the company of others in similar situations
- Sharing experiences and feelings about Parkinson’s, information and solutions
- Support from professionals in speech pathology and music therapy.
